Q: As a transfemme, could I hide the fact that I’m on estrogen by binding while I’m around people who I’m not out to? Also, is there any way I could hide the rest of the effects of estrogen for the same reason? I’d like to get an early start that way I don’t have to wait until I live alone!
A: Absolutely you could conceal some of the effects of HRT if that makes you more comfortable in certain settings or circumstances. Binding could definitely be an option to conceal chest growth, but depending on how long you are on HRT before you do live alone, you might not even have to since it does take quite a while before you have significant/noticeable chest growth. You might just be okay with something a bit more compressing like a sports bra, which will also be much more comfy than a binder.
Most of the effects of estrogen should be fairly easy to conceal. The early effects of estrogen GAHT include your skin getting softer and smoother, your body odor and sweat production decreasing, and mood changes. If someone didn't know you were on estrogen, I think most of these early effects would be pretty easily explained away if someone were to notice them. Good luck!
